en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 7, Bangladesh's national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines formally signed a firm order with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus for 10 passenger aircraft, including 4 A350-900 wide-body long-range passenger aircraft and 6 A321neo single-aisle passenger aircraft. The signing ceremony was held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, with Biman Bangladesh Airlines Chairman Rumee A. Hossain and Airbus South Asia head Jürgen Westermeier signing the agreement on behalf of both parties. Airbus confirmed the order took effect the same day, but has not yet disclosed the contract value, aircraft delivery batches, or specific delivery timelines.

This procurement involves two types of passenger aircraft with different ranges. According to the fleet plan published by Airbus, the A350-900 wide-body aircraft will be used by Biman Bangladesh Airlines to expand into the North American market as well as major international routes in Europe and the Middle East, while the A321neo will undertake medium-range international route operations. Biman Bangladesh Airlines currently uses Dhaka as its main operating hub, and its active fleet consists of 19 aircraft, mainly including Boeing jetliners and Dash-8 turboprop aircraft.

Prior to the signing of this Airbus order, Biman Bangladesh Airlines had already placed an additional order with Boeing for 11 aircraft on September 23, including 5 787-10 wide-body aircraft and 6 737-8 single-aisle aircraft. In April of this year, the airline also ordered 14 Boeing aircraft. Combined with this Airbus order, Biman Bangladesh Airlines' aircraft orders from the two manufacturers announced in 2026 total 35, including 25 from Boeing and 10 from Airbus.

Regarding delivery arrangements, Bangladesh's Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M. Rashiduzzaman Millat proposed during the signing that he hoped Airbus could deliver at least one aircraft in the 2026–2027 fiscal year to meet the airline's capacity needs.
