en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 7, Borouge International, headquartered in Vienna, Austria, announced plans to expand its European plastics mechanical recycling business by increasing recycled polyolefin production capacity at its plants in Niedergebra, Germany, and Wildon, Austria. The two sites plan to add a combined nearly 14,000 tonnes of annual capacity, with the German plant expected to bring new capacity on stream in the first quarter of 2027 and the Austrian plant expected to commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2027.

The Niedergebra plant in Germany, formerly operated by mtm plastics, primarily processes post-consumer mixed polyolefin waste plastics to produce recycled mixed polyolefin (rPO) materials, which are used in various rigid plastic products. The expansion plan will increase the plant's annual output of recycled materials by nearly 9,000 tonnes, with the new capacity to be integrated into Borouge International's mechanical recycling production system in Europe. The existing plant handles post-consumer waste plastic processing and recycled material production, with the expansion focused on supplying mixed polyolefin recycled products.

The Wildon plant in Austria, formerly Ecoplast, primarily produces recycled polyethylene (rPE) and plans to add up to 5,000 tonnes of annual capacity. The new output will mainly serve flexible packaging applications, including recycled polyethylene film and other materials. According to the commissioning timeline announced by the company, the Wildon expansion project will commence operations in the fourth quarter of 2027, after the new capacity at the German plant comes on stream. Borouge International has not yet disclosed the specific scale of equipment procurement or the contract value of the expansion projects at the two plants.

Borouge International also operates a plastics recycling plant in Elin Pelin, Bulgaria, which produces more than 20,000 tonnes of post-consumer recycled polypropylene (rPP) annually. The three facilities in Germany, Austria, and Bulgaria respectively cover mixed polyolefin, recycled polyethylene, and recycled polypropylene products, supplying rigid plastic products, flexible packaging, and other polymer material applications. The company's circular material product lines include the Borcycle and Recleo series.

Borouge International was formed in 2026 through the integration of Borouge, Borealis, and NOVA Chemicals, with major shareholders including XRG, the international investment platform under Abu Dhabi National Oil Company of the UAE, and Austria's OMV Group.
