en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 9, Shell Singapore and Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) jointly announced that the first batch of ISCC EU-certified bio-liquefied natural gas (Bio-LNG) has arrived in Singapore and was delivered and unloaded by the LNG carrier Macoma at the SLNG terminal on Jurong Island. This is the first time Singapore has received a bio-LNG cargo compliant with this certification system, involving US biomethane sources, cross-border transportation, and practical application of existing LNG receiving facilities.

This batch of certified biomethane originated in the United States, was transported by pipeline into liquefaction facilities, and was accounted for on a mass balance basis into Shell's regular LNG cargo, then shipped to Singapore by sea. The supply chain covers biomethane procurement, certification tracking, liquefaction, vessel transportation, terminal unloading, and storage. The official announcement did not disclose the total cargo volume, the certified biomethane proportion, the procurement price, or the actual unloading date.

The SLNG terminal has obtained ISCC EU certification, with the certification scope covering bio-LNG storage, regasification, send-out, vessel bunkering, and tanker truck loading. The relevant certification allows tracking and accounting of biomethane quantities managed on a mass balance basis. This receiving operation used existing LNG infrastructure, and the certification scope also covers related logistics and handling services within the terminal.

SLNG's existing terminal on Jurong Island has been in commercial operation since May 2013 and currently has two berths and four storage tanks, with a maximum gas send-out capacity of approximately 11 million tonnes per year. The terminal handles import LNG receiving, storage, regasification, and send-out operations, and provides transshipment and vessel bunkering-related services. This cargo was received through the terminal's existing facilities.

On October 9, SLNG also held a groundbreaking ceremony for a third berth at the same terminal. The new berth will serve LNG vessels with capacities ranging from 5,800 to 80,000 cubic meters, is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2028, and is expected to meet approximately 2 million tonnes per year of LNG vessel bunker reloading demand, while also accommodating breakbulk and other small-scale LNG operations. Combined with existing infrastructure, the terminal's future potential LNG bunker reloading capacity could reach approximately 3 million tonnes per year, depending on market demand.

The new berth is also planned to have bio-LNG handling capability. Shell has previously signed relevant bio-LNG supply agreements and plans to supply regasified biomethane to Singapore customers starting from 2027.
