AXIAN Signs 200 MW Solar Power Purchase Agreement in Zambia
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 8, AXIAN Energy, a subsidiary of AXIAN Group, and Africa GreenCo signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) during the Energy Forum for Africa 2026 held in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, covering the Kudu photovoltaic power generation project. The project is planned with an installed capacity of 200 MW on the AC side and 240 MW on the DC side, and is expected to generate approximately 530 million kWh annually after commissioning. Currently, the project is advancing toward financial close and subsequent construction preparation work.

The Kudu photovoltaic power station is planned to be built in Kafue District, Zambia. Under the agreement, Africa GreenCo will purchase the electricity generated by the project and sell it through the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) to regional power utilities, mining companies, agricultural enterprises, and other commercial and industrial users. AXIAN Energy is responsible for project development, while Africa GreenCo assumes the role of power purchaser and electricity trader.
The project is supported by Standard Bank Group and Stanbic Bank Zambia for financing-related matters. Both parties have identified the signing of the power purchase agreement as a key milestone in advancing project financing, with the next phase including completion of financial close and entry into the construction stage. Currently available public information has not yet clarified the final financing amount, construction contract value, or commercial operation date.
The power purchase agreement uses AC-side capacity as the contracted scale, while the project's DC-side capacity corresponds to the installed scale of photovoltaic modules. The project's expected annual power generation is calculated at 530 GWh, and the electricity will enter the Southern African regional power trading market, with Africa GreenCo arranging sales to different types of power purchasing customers.
