en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 13, Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, signed a construction contract with Zhonggu Shipping Group Co., Ltd. for 2 14,000 TEU large container ships. The ship type ordered this time was independently developed and designed by Hudong-Zhonghua, with an overall length of 336 meters, a molded breadth of 51 meters, and a molded depth of 30.2 meters, a design speed of 21 knots, and conventional low-speed engine propulsion. The total designed loading capacity of the two ships is 28,000 TEU.

Hudong-Zhonghua has previously undertaken multiple batches of orders for 14,000 TEU-class large container ships. On September 1, 2026, the company, together with China Shipbuilding Industry and Trade Co., Ltd., signed a construction contract with Germany's Peter Döhle for 2 container ships of the same class. These ships adopt methanol and ammonia dual-fuel-ready design and are equipped with permanent magnet shaft generators. On September 16 of this year, the company also signed a construction contract with China United Lines for 2 14,000 TEU container ships. The ship type adopts conventional power propulsion and is equipped with a twisted rudder with bulb, energy-saving ducts, and a variable frequency system for auxiliary engine room equipment.

The Zhonggu Shipping order this time explicitly adopts conventional low-speed engine propulsion. The same-class ship type previously designed by Hudong-Zhonghua for Peter Döhle adopted a principal dimension configuration of a 336-meter ship length, a 51-meter molded breadth, and a 30.2-meter molded depth, and reserved conditions for upgrading to a methanol fuel propulsion system; the first batch of 4 ships under the 2024 contract is scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2027.
