en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 12, Honeywell of the United States announced that it had won the technology contract for the aromatics complex of Bahrain's Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), and will provide process licensing, engineering technical services, and supporting equipment for the new project located at the Sitra industrial site. The project is planned to produce 1.2 million tons per year of paraxylene and 500,000 tons per year of benzene, totaling 1.7 million tons, and will adopt Honeywell UOP's naphtha hydrotreating, continuous catalytic reforming, and aromatics production processes.

Under the contract, Honeywell will provide process technology licensing, engineering design services, catalysts, adsorbents, and some key equipment. The project adopts three types of process technologies—Naphtha Hydrotreating, CCR Platforming, and LDPX Aromatics Complex—which are used respectively for naphtha hydrotreating pretreatment, continuous catalytic reforming, and aromatics production facilities.

The project entered the front-end engineering design stage in July 2026, and GPIC had previously awarded the design contract to Fluor. The project is planned to be located on approximately 60 hectares of reclaimed land in Sitra, and its construction content includes paraxylene and benzene production facilities. The contract won by Honeywell this time covers process licensing, engineering technical services, and related equipment supply, and is implemented separately from the front-end engineering design task previously undertaken by Fluor.

Honeywell UOP had previously supplied pressure swing adsorption technology, adsorbents, and process automation solutions to GPIC's existing ammonia and methanol production facilities. This newly added contract involves naphtha processing, aromatics production technology, and supporting equipment, expanding the scope of related technology supply to GPIC's new aromatics complex.
