en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, NVIDIA announced that its research team completed a 104-qubit fault-tolerant quantum computing simulation using the JUPITER supercomputer at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Germany. NVIDIA stated that this is the largest comprehensive simulation of a fault-tolerant quantum processor to date. The research validated a "magic state cultivation" technical approach that requires 90% fewer physical qubits compared with previous methods.

The simulation used 8,192 NVIDIA GH200 superchips to simulate the process of a quantum processor performing fault-tolerant computation under conditions that account for real hardware noise. The researchers used NVIDIA cuQuantum software for computational optimization and built magic state cultivation circuits through the fault-tolerant logical layer of the CUDA-Q platform. Previously, the Jülich research team had completed a 50-qubit simulation under ideal noise-free conditions; this study further incorporated hardware noise and its impact on the computational process.

The research team first developed and tested the simulation method on a GB200 NVL72 system at the NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center, gradually scaling the computation from 4 GPUs to hundreds, and then migrated it to the JUPITER supercomputer. By optimizing the simulation method and computing resource allocation, the researchers shortened simulation work that would originally have taken weeks to several days, and used test results at different computational scales to verify simulation accuracy and scalability.

NVIDIA stated that this simulation method can be used to evaluate processor designs before quantum hardware manufacturing. By simulating the magic state generation process and the impact of hardware noise, researchers can compare the performance of different fault-tolerant approaches and adjust the design of quantum computing systems.
