en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 20, the U.S. Department of Energy issued a notice confirming that it had received an extension application from Texas LNG Brownsville regarding its LNG export deadline. The company plans to extend the latest export commencement date for its 4 million tonnes per annum LNG export project at the Port of Brownsville, Texas, from February 10, 2027 to February 10, 2032, an extension of 5 years. The application was submitted on September 28 and has now entered the public comment period.

Texas LNG stated that since obtaining construction and operation authorization from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in 2019, the project has been continuously affected by litigation and regulatory reviews, delaying long-term financing and commercial agreement negotiations. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved on August 21, 2025 an extension of the project's construction and commissioning deadline to November 22, 2029. This application concerns the LNG export authorization issued by the Department of Energy and also requests a 3-year extension of the make-up period after the existing export license expires at the end of 2050.

The project is located on the north shore of the Port of Brownsville, covering approximately 253 hectares, and is planned to include natural gas liquefaction facilities and an LNG loading terminal capable of accommodating vessels with cargo capacities of 130,000 to 180,000 cubic meters, with a design increase of approximately 74 LNG vessel calls per year. Developer Glenfarne Group has signed a fixed-price turnkey engineering contract with Kiewit Energy Group and issued a limited notice to proceed in July this year, covering long-lead equipment procurement, engineering design, and geotechnical investigation. During the same period, Glenfarne announced that it had secured a USD 500 million investment led by HPS Investment Partners for early-stage project development and construction preparation.

The U.S. Department of Energy requires relevant comments and objections to be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time on November 19, 2026, after which it will conduct its review based on the application materials and public feedback.
