Grasim's 50,000 t/y Epichlorohydrin Plant in India Officially Commissioned
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 21, Grasim Industries, a subsidiary of India's Aditya Birla Group, announced that its epichlorohydrin (ECH) production facility at Vilayat in Gujarat, India, has officially entered commercial operation, with a designed annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes. The plant is integrated into the company's chlor-alkali downstream derivatives business and primarily serves the production of epoxy resins and related chemical materials. Grasim has submitted a commercial commissioning notice to the Indian stock exchange, confirming that the new facility began commercial production as of October 21.

The Vilayat site is a key production base for Grasim's chlor-alkali chemicals and downstream materials manufacturing. The company previously disclosed in an investor report that the epichlorohydrin project had entered the engineering construction phase and was originally scheduled for mechanical completion in the third quarter of fiscal year 2025–2026. The commissioning announcement on October 21 updated the project status from construction in progress to commercial operation.
Grasim has established chemical product businesses covering chlor-alkali, chlorine derivatives, and epoxy resins and curing agents. The company's 2025 investor materials show an annual capacity of 246,000 tonnes for epoxy resins and curing agents; approximately 1.505 million tonnes per year for chlor-alkali products; and approximately 1.058 million tonnes per year for chlorine derivatives during the same period. The newly commissioned epichlorohydrin plant will become a new production unit in its downstream chlorine chemicals industry chain.
At the Vilayat site, Grasim is also advancing a chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) resin project in cooperation with Lubrizol of the United States, with a planned total capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year and a first-phase construction scale of 50,000 tonnes per year. The company previously included this project alongside the epichlorohydrin plant in its chlor-alkali downstream expansion plan and set a target of raising the comprehensive utilization rate of chlorine resources to 70% after the relevant facilities are put into operation.
