INEOS UK Launches Low-Carbon Olefins and Polymers Series with Product Carbon Footprint Reduced by Up to 50%

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 19, the European Olefins and Polymers business of UK chemical company INEOS officially launched the LowINCO₂ low-carbon product series, covering olefins and polymers from its European production network. According to the product carbon footprint data published by the company, the carbon footprint of this series can be up to 50% lower than the European industry average. INEOS also stated that the carbon footprint of the related products will be further reduced once its €5 billion Project ONE ethane cracker in Antwerp, Belgium, comes into operation.

The LowINCO₂ product series is based on INEOS's existing low-carbon olefins production system in Europe and covers its olefins and polymers portfolio. The company supplies this series for downstream applications including lightweight components for automotive and transportation, water and gas pipes, medical and healthcare products, consumer electronics, food and beverage packaging, and building materials.

The LowINCO₂ certification launched this time covers olefins and polymers from INEOS's European production network. Liz Rittweger, CEO of INEOS European Olefins and Polymers, said the company offers this series of materials to European brand owners and industrial customers, who can use the related product carbon footprint data for Scope 3 emissions accounting across their supply chains and for carbon footprint management of end products.

The Project ONE project in Antwerp, Belgium, plans to build an ethane cracker with a total investment of approximately €5 billion. INEOS plans to incorporate the low-carbon olefins produced by the unit into the related product supply system after it becomes operational, further reducing the product carbon footprint of the LowINCO₂ series. The investment amount for this project pertains to the ethane cracking facility and is not a separate R&D or production investment for this new product series.

INEOS's European polymers portfolio also includes the Recycl-IN series incorporating mechanically recycled plastics, materials using advanced recycling processes, bio-attributed feedstock products, and multilayer machine-direction orientation film technology suitable for mono-material recyclable packaging. The LowINCO₂ series, by contrast, uses product carbon footprint as its primary classification metric and is incorporated into its European olefins and polymers sales system.
