Wedoany.com Report-Jul. 29, Envision Energy, a China-based green technology company, has provided green ammonia for a groundbreaking bunkering operation at Dalian Port. The operation occurred at COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry’s terminal in Dalian, where China Shipping & Sinopec Suppliers conducted the first-ever bunkering of green ammonia fuel for a 5,500-horsepower tugboat.

The tugboat features an independently developed ammonia dual-fuel engine and a specialized fuel supply system, achieving an ammonia substitution rate of up to 91%. This significantly reduces dependence on traditional fossil fuels and lowers carbon emissions during operations. The vessel has been certified as an “Ammonia Fuel Tug” by the China Classification Society.

The green ammonia was produced at Envision Energy’s facility in Chifeng, recognized as the world’s largest and most cost-effective green hydrogen and ammonia production plant. Powered by an integrated renewable energy system combining wind, solar, and energy storage, the facility utilizes proprietary technologies for hydrogen and ammonia production.

The Chifeng facility has earned ISCC Plus certification, marking it as the world’s first project certified for green ammonia with a verified greenhouse gas footprint. Additionally, the green ammonia has received renewable ammonia certification from Bureau Veritas, reinforcing its environmental credentials.

Envision Energy described the bunkering as a historic milestone, establishing a complete value chain from green ammonia production to transportation, bunkering, and operation of ammonia-powered vessels. This achievement highlights the potential for scalable, sustainable fuel solutions in maritime applications.

Frank Yu, Senior Vice President of Envision Energy, stated: “This successful bunkering demonstrates how net zero fuels can scale from renewable power generation to hard-to-abate sectors like maritime shipping – a true breakthrough for green ammonia. We are proud that our green ammonia powered the world’s first bunkering of its kind. It’s a testament to Envision’s ability to deliver end-to-end net zero solutions that accelerate the replacement of fossil fuels with green energy in shipping and redefine what’s possible for the broader industrial transition.”

The operation at Dalian Port showcases Envision Energy’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions. By enabling the use of green ammonia in maritime shipping, the company supports the transition to cleaner energy in industries traditionally reliant on fossil fuels, contributing to global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
