Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 7, Sumitomo Electric Industries has supplied a redox flow battery system to Osaka Metropolitan University’s Innovation Academy Smart Energy Building in Osaka, Japan, for a collaborative demonstration project aimed at enhancing renewable energy efficiency through artificial intelligence.

The initiative integrates Sumitomo’s advanced battery technology with Kansai Electric Power’s cloud-based SenaSon energy control platform. This system enables research into AI-driven solutions for managing electricity demand, forecasting solar power generation, and optimizing battery storage. The project seeks to improve the reliability and efficiency of renewable energy systems, supporting sustainable energy practices.

The demonstration is part of a government-supported program fostering partnerships among universities, industry, and public institutions. By combining expertise, the project aims to develop innovative approaches to energy management, leveraging AI to balance supply and demand effectively.

A representative from Sumitomo Electric stated: “Our redox flow battery system, paired with cutting-edge AI technology, will contribute to advancing renewable energy utilization at Osaka Metropolitan University. We are committed to supporting sustainable energy solutions through this collaboration.”

The Smart Energy Building serves as a testing ground for these technologies, with the redox flow battery playing a key role in storing and managing energy generated from renewable sources. The SenaSon platform uses AI to predict solar output and adjust battery operations, ensuring efficient energy use across the facility. This setup supports the university’s research goals while demonstrating practical applications for smart energy systems.

The project aligns with broader efforts to promote clean energy in Japan, where renewable sources are increasingly vital for reducing carbon emissions. By integrating AI with advanced battery technology, the collaboration aims to set a model for future energy management systems, benefiting both academic research and practical applications in the energy sector.

This initiative highlights the potential of industry-academia partnerships to drive innovation in sustainable energy. Sumitomo Electric and Osaka Metropolitan University are working together to refine technologies that could enhance energy efficiency and support Japan’s transition to a low-carbon future.
