Wedoany.com Report-Sept. 8, STL has announced the development of the world’s slimmest optical fiber cable designed for data center operators, hyperscalers, and telecom service providers in the United States. The company introduced its Celesta Intermittent Bonded Ribbon (IBR) Cable, which delivers high fiber density by incorporating 864 fibers into a cable diameter of just 11.7 mm, optimized for installation through a 14 mm inner diameter duct.
The Celesta IBR Cable has demonstrated record-setting jetting performance, reaching approximately 4,700 feet (over 1,500 meters) in less than 20 minutes. It employs STL’s advanced bend-insensitive HD G.657.A2 200-micron fiber and industry-standard sheathing, ensuring reliable and efficient installation under various conditions for customers in the United States.
Hyperscalers require network infrastructure with ultra-high capacity, low latency, and scalability to manage large-scale data flows between data centers and cloud environments. Their networks benefit from cables that maximize fiber count within limited duct space, reduce installation time, and provide strong performance in different environments. STL’s Celesta IBR Cable addresses these needs by combining high-capacity fiber packing with robust installation features, making it suitable for demanding applications such as data centers, cabinet interconnections, and outside plant projects.
With 864 fibers, the cable provides maximum capacity within available duct space and supports high-bandwidth communication requirements. It complies with ICEA 122-744 standards and GR 20 guidelines and can be installed in 14/18 mm micro subducts. The cable has been validated through IEC-compliant track configuration testing.
STL’s IBR cable range spans from 12 fibers up to an industry-leading 6,912 fibers. Over the past five years, STL has produced and delivered more than 10 million fiber kilometers to customers in Europe and the United States. The company was also the first to introduce IBR technology in India. With 10 manufacturing facilities located across North America, Europe, and Asia, STL is well positioned to serve global connectivity requirements with speed and scale.
Highlighting the company’s innovation, Dr. Badri Gomatam, CTO of STL, stated: “Our breakthrough Celesta IBR cable is a testament to STL’s commitment to advanced engineering and customer-centric innovation. By delivering industry-leading fibre density and bend performance in a remarkably slim design, we’re empowering hyperscalers and data centres to scale up efficiently and sustainably—laying the foundation for next-generation digital infrastructure.”
The introduction of the Celesta IBR Cable underscores STL’s focus on advancing digital connectivity solutions. By addressing the growing demand for high-capacity, space-efficient, and sustainable network infrastructure, STL is enabling customers to enhance performance and reliability while preparing for future data-driven growth.
