Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 3, China’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure continued its rapid growth in the first three quarters of 2025, with the total number of charging facilities reaching 18.06 million units by the end of September, up 54.5% year on year, according to official data released on Friday.
Tan Hongjiang, an official of the National Energy Administration (NEA), said at a press conference that the expanding network has effectively supported the charging needs of approximately 40 million new energy vehicles across the country. He added that the combined rated power of public EV charging facilities had reached about 200 million kilowatts by the end of September, marking a 59.2% increase from the beginning of the year.
Tan also highlighted that the sector has achieved significant progress in new technologies and business models, including the deployment of high-power charging networks and smart charging systems, which enhance efficiency and convenience for users. These innovations support faster charging times and greater integration with digital platforms for energy management.
Earlier in November, China released a three-year action plan to further expand EV charging infrastructure, targeting a nationwide network of 28 million charging facilities by the end of 2027. The plan aims to promote a robust, reliable, and accessible charging network to accommodate the anticipated growth of new energy vehicles in the coming years.
The initiative encourages greater private sector participation in the EV charging industry. Currently, eight of China’s top 10 charging service providers are private enterprises, reflecting the market’s commercial dynamics. NEA data shows that as of the end of September, these eight private companies collectively accounted for 70.7% of the public charging market, underscoring the dominant role of private players in expanding and operating charging networks.
China’s efforts in expanding EV infrastructure also focus on balancing accessibility, efficiency, and sustainability. The combination of rapid network growth, innovative charging technologies, and active private sector involvement is aimed at supporting the country’s ongoing transition to clean mobility while meeting the growing electricity demand from new energy vehicles.
Overall, the data reflects a strong upward trajectory for China’s EV charging sector, demonstrating both technological advancement and strategic planning. With the government’s three-year action plan and continued private investment, the country is expected to further strengthen its EV charging coverage, increase system capacity, and provide convenient services for millions of EV users nationwide, reinforcing China’s position as a global leader in new energy vehicle adoption and infrastructure development.
