Wedoany.com Report-Dec.11, ACCIONA Energía has commenced commercial operations at its 480 MWp Aldoga solar farm in Queensland, Australia. The facility will deliver all generated renewable electricity to Stanwell Corporation, a Queensland state-owned energy company, under a 15-year power purchase agreement.

Located near Gladstone, the Aldoga solar farm is designed to produce sufficient clean energy each year to meet the annual electricity needs of approximately 185,000 average households. The project is expected to offset 934,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to removing 360,000 conventional vehicles from the roads.

During peak construction, the development created around 350 local jobs. ACCIONA Energía procured materials, components, and services worth up to A$150 million from Queensland and Australian suppliers, supporting regional economic activity. The project also funded upgrades to Flynn Road and other local infrastructure.

Community initiatives include the launch of a Small Grants Programme and a multi-year Legacy Investment Programme to benefit organisations and projects in the surrounding area.

The Aldoga solar farm strengthens ACCIONA Energía's growing renewable portfolio in Australia, which now totals nearly 2 GW of wind and solar capacity either operating or under construction. The company is simultaneously commissioning the 923 MW MacIntyre wind farm in Queensland, which will rank among the largest wind facilities in the Southern Hemisphere upon completion.

These developments contribute to Queensland's energy transition by adding substantial new renewable generation capacity connected to the national grid. The electricity produced will serve domestic consumption within Australia and does not involve exports or imports of power. The initiatives focus on expanding low-carbon energy supply while delivering employment and economic benefits to the host region throughout construction and ongoing operations.
