On December 24, it was learned from China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN) that the first "Hualong One" nuclear power project in the Greater Bay Area – CGN's Taipingling Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1, and the first "Hualong One" nuclear power project in the Yangtze River Delta – CGN's Zhejiang San'ao Nuclear Power Plant Unit 1 have begun loading their first batch of nuclear fuel. This marks the units' entry into the main system's nuclear commissioning phase, laying a solid foundation for subsequent criticality, grid connection, and power generation.
The Taipingling and San'ao nuclear power projects are located in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, and Cangnan County, Zhejiang Province, respectively. Each site plans to build pressurized water reactor nuclear power units with a capacity of around 6 million kilowatts. Unit 1 of both projects is expected to commence commercial operation and power generation in the first half of 2026. After entering commercial operation, each unit is estimated to provide nearly 10 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually, capable of meeting the annual electricity demand for production and living of 1 million people. This is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by over 3 million tons, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 9.24 million tons, which is comparable to afforesting 22,500 hectares.
