Wedoany.com Report-Dec.27, Tesla has reached an agreement with global renewable energy platform Matrix Renewables to build a large-scale battery energy storage system in Eccles, Scotland. This independent energy storage project has a planned capacity of 500 megawatts/2 hours.

This energy storage facility is designed to optimize the grid's absorption of renewable energy. When wind power generation exceeds the grid's immediate demand, the system can store the excess electricity, helping to reduce the need to temporarily shut down wind turbines for grid regulation. The project is located along a major transmission corridor between Scotland and England and is expected to provide critical flexibility to the grid, supporting the integration of larger-scale renewable energy.

This project marks Matrix Renewables' official entry into the UK market and represents one of its large-scale energy storage projects under development in Europe. Currently, the project has met all planning conditions and obtained full permits, and is about to enter the construction phase.

Mike Snyder, Vice President of Tesla Energy, said: "We are thrilled to support Matrix Renewables' entry into the UK market, combining Tesla's strong track record in this market with Matrix Renewables' expertise and vision. We value our collaboration with their team and look forward to completing this milestone project together."

Sergio Arbeláez, General Manager for Europe and Latin America at Matrix Renewables, said: "We are delivering the infrastructure at the necessary scale to support the UK's transition to a clean, secure, and resilient power system. This installation demonstrates our ability to execute complex utility-scale energy storage projects through strong partnerships and long-term strategic vision."
