Recently, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure signed a cooperation agreement with British partners, marking the official entry of Turkey's hydrogen train project into the research and development phase. This also represents a significant collaborative initiative between the two countries in the field of green rail transportation.

According to the agreement, the Turkish National Railway Vehicle Manufacturing Company (TÜRASAŞ) will serve as the overall project coordinator, responsible for the R&D and delivery of the prototype, and will own all intellectual property rights of the project, becoming the owner and R&D center for the prototype of this hydrogen train project. On the technical cooperation front, the UK will leverage the strengths of its renowned academic institutions and professional organizations to provide key technical support and knowledge transfer for the project. This will primarily cover core areas such as fuel cell system integration, system architecture design, power electronics technology, energy management, and operational safety, assisting Turkey in overcoming key challenges in hydrogen train development.

Turkish officials stated that the hydrogen train project aims to strengthen domestic engineering and technological capabilities, establish a local technological system for hydrogen traction systems, and simultaneously reduce carbon emissions and noise pollution in rail transport while enhancing passenger comfort by leveraging the clean and low-noise characteristics of hydrogen. As an important component of Turkey's green transportation strategy, this project also carries Turkey's long-term development vision. The goal is to develop a competitive local solution that meets international standards, promoting TÜRASAŞ to become a regional center for hydrogen rail technology.
