Wedoany.com Report on Feb 5th, The People's Committee of Gia Lai Province has approved VINENERGO Energy Joint Stock Company as the investor for the first phase of the Hong Thao Wind Power Project. The total investment for the project is approximately 48.4 trillion Vietnamese dong (equivalent to over 1.86 billion USD).

According to information from the Investment Promotion Center of the Provincial Department of Finance, the decision was signed on February 3, 2026. VINENERGO was the only company meeting all selection criteria, securing the qualification for project development.

The first phase of the Hong Thao Wind Power Project is planned with a total installed capacity of 750 megawatts (MW), expected to generate approximately 2.8 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually. The power will be integrated into the national grid system at a voltage level of 220 kilovolts (kV).

The project's grid connection plan includes two double-circuit 220 kV transmission lines: one connecting from the Hong Thao 1 Substation (HT 1A area) to the Phu My Substation, and another newly built from the Hong Thao 1 Substation (HT 1B area) to the Nhon Hoi Substation.

Wind turbines will be installed in two main areas. Turbines in the HT 1A area are located in the coastal waters of the former Phu My district, covering the current communes of Phu My Bac and Phu My Dong; the substations and transmission lines will be constructed on land in communes including Phu My Dong, Phu My Bac, Phu My Tay, and Binh Duong. Turbines in the HT 1B area will be installed offshore in the former Phu Cat district, with related substations and lines situated within the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone, involving communes such as Nguyet, Cat Tien, Tuy Phuoc Dong, and Nhon Hoi Dong ward.

The entire project occupies approximately 32.01 hectares of sea area and about 17.61 hectares of land area.

Provincial leaders noted that the project will provide renewable energy to the national power system, supporting energy security and meeting the electricity demand for socio-economic development. Simultaneously, the project is expected to generate fiscal revenue, create jobs, enhance industrial capacity, and serve as a growth engine, helping the province achieve its goals for sustainable economic development.

The Hong Thao Wind Power Project is scheduled to be completed and operational by the fourth quarter of 2029.
