Wedoany.com Report on Feb 10th, The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India reported that the total length of National Highways in the Northeast region has increased from 10,905 km in 2014 to 16,207 km as of April 1, 2025. Furthermore, currently, 177 road projects are under implementation, spanning a total length of 3,635 km with an investment of ₹871.19 billion. Under the "Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana" (PMGSY), the Ministry of Rural Development has sanctioned 17,666 road works totaling 89,503 km and 2,396 bridge works across the Northeastern states. Among these, 16,547 road works (81,448 km) and 2,126 bridges have been completed, with a total expenditure of ₹533.5349 billion, including state share.

The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region has sanctioned 647 road and bridge projects under its various schemes, with a total value of ₹82.6088 billion. Out of these, 500 projects have been completed at a total cost of ₹49.15 billion.

The Ministry of Railways reported that as of April 1, 2025, the Northeast Frontier Railway has sanctioned 12 railway projects, including 8 new lines and 4 doubling projects, with a total length of 777 km and an estimated cost of ₹693.42 billion. Of this, 278 km have been commissioned.

Regarding digital connectivity, the Department of Telecommunications stated that as of December 2025, 6,355 Gram Panchayats in the region have been made service-ready under the BharatNet project. Additionally, under government-funded 4G coverage and other mobile connectivity projects, 3,718 mobile towers have been installed, covering 5,366 villages and areas.

The implementation schedule for these road projects depends on factors such as terrain, land availability, statutory clearances, and fund availability. These projects are expected to improve transportation, support agricultural and industrial development, boost tourism growth, generate employment, and accelerate the socio-economic development of the Northeastern states.
