In 1924, recognizing the need for an improved way to protect low pressure steam heating boilers, Everett Nicholas McDonnell, in collaboration with Pat Miller, formed McDonnell & Miller (M&M). Its first products were automatic boiler water feeders for low pressure steam boilers. The company prospered, and during the 1930s it developed many products that are still used today, including a patented cold feed valve, and a quick hook-up fitting that made the valve very easy to install. In the mid 1930s, new boilers with automatic burners created the need for a safety device that would turn off the burner if a low water condition developed. This led to the development of M&M抯 low water cut-off product line for hot water and steam boilers. By the end of the decade, code authorities were mandating that pressure boilers be protected with some type of low water sensing device. Pent-up consumer demand after World War II led to updates in automatic heating equipment. M&M reaped the benefits of this demand, and built a new factory in the late 1940s. Manufacturing, though considerably modernized, still takes place in this facility today. M&M built its first flow switch in the 1930s for use in steam locomotives. Sales declined with the passing of the steam locomotive, but in the early 1950s, new market opportunities arose in commercial and industrial air conditioning to prevent a freeze-up of the chiller. Many new flow switch models were added, additional markets developed, and M&M created one of the broadest flow switch lines in the world. In 1971, M&M was acquired by ITT Industries, Inc. The company, now part of a division that includes Bell & Gossett, Domestic Pump and Hoffman Specialty, continues to expand its line of boiler controls, liquid level controls and flow switches for residential, commercial and industrial applications. The facility received ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification as the result of its dedication to designing, producing and marketing the very highest quality products.

Founded in 1968, Dynacraft was organized to consolidate purchases of bulk hose products for the five U.S. Kenworth and Peterbilt factories then in operation. Initial products included a wide selection of air brake, fuel, hydraulic and cooling system hose for heavy-duty trucks. Within a short time Dynacraft began manufacturing complete hose assemblies to facilitate improved efficiency at PACCAR truck factories. During the 1970’s Dynacraft added brass and steel hose-end adapters to its product offering and established itself as full-line distributor of fluid systems components for PACCAR original equipment manufacturing and service requirements. By 1985 Dynacraft’s business volume had grown substantially with significant product line additions such as valves, v-belts, nylon air brake hose and fittings, silicone cooling system hose, refrigerant hose and fittings, hose for special applications such as compressor discharge and wiper spray, and hose assembly equipment, tools and accessories. In the 1990’s Dynacraft’s business expanded in new direction when it began sub-assembly of cooling system (radiator) modules and cab door assemblies for Kenworth factories. For these programs Dynacraft assumed responsibility for managing supplies of component parts, building subassemblies, and then shipping them each day in correct sequence for the vehicle assembly lines at the truck factories. From that start Dynacraft developed expertise in managing just-in-time delivery programs for a wide variety of sub-assemblies and component kits. During the same period Dynacraft developed and patented a highly successful reduced-maintenance battery cable connection and began supplying battery cable assemblies for all Kenworth and Peterbilt vehicles. The company also added capability to fabricate formed rigid tube assemblies, or hard-lines, for air conditioning and cooling system applications. Today, Dynacraft is a critical link in PACCAR’s North American supply chain, supplying more than 25,000 component and assembly part numbers for Kenworth and Peterbilt vehicles manufactured at six factories in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. In addition to high quality components shipped to support discrete orders, kanban programs and chassis-specific kits, Dynacraft plants in Algona, Washington and Louisville, Kentucky manufacture cab doors, diesel particulate filter assemblies, battery box and tool box assemblies, air tank module assemblies, clean-power supply units, dash panels, power steering reservoir assemblies and a wide variety of airbrake valve assemblies. Components, component kits and assemblies are frequently shipped to PACCAR’s factories just days or even hours prior to vehicle assembly schedules, packaged and sequenced in order for the assembly line, most often in reusable containers or racks. Such programs leverage PACCAR’s manufacturing assets, reduce component inventories and improve the company’s overall operating efficiency. Dynacraft has applied automation and key technologies such as bar coding and put-to-light to improve productivity and product quality. In 2007 Dynacraft implemented a state-of-the-art, fully integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) software as its primary business system. The new business system supports the company’s strategy of manufacturing and shipping its products immediately prior to the customer’s requirement date to minimize raw material and component inventories and increase throughput at the truck plants. The system has specialized features to support Dynacraft’s kitting and line sequencing services and is integrated with other PACCAR systems. Dynacraft Plants Dynacraft division headquarters and one of its two manufacturing and distribution plants is located in Algona, Washington. The 83,000 square foot facility provides components, kits and assemblies for PACCAR’s Seattle-area and Mexico truck factories, as well as service parts shipments to Western U.S. Kenworth and Peterbilt dealers participating in the PACCAR Parts direct shipment program. The largest Dynacraft plant, a 150,000 square foot facility in Louisville, Kentucky, supports five PACCAR truck factories in the U.S., Canada and Mexico as well as more than 500 dealer ship-to locations participating in the direct ship program.
