John Manly was born on the west coast of Canada and began his career building boats at a local shipyard. In 1946, John saw an opportunity to start his own shipyard, building small commercial vessels. As time progressed he expanded into steel and aluminum construction of fish boats, tugs and patrol vessels. Early on he observed problems with the marine closures of the day and applied himself to the development of better designs. The objective was to produce rugged watertight closures that were impervious to the extremes of cold and heat. The first solution was a sandwich construction of aluminum laminated to a cedar core, closed by a quick acting single lever. The design proved to be successful and the starting point for the introduction of many innovative marine closure designs. Over the years the company has changed ownership, most recently in 2008. The new owner remains focused on providing the worlds market with rugged, heavy duty marine closures with unrivalled safety and protection from the elements. Recently, exciting opportunities in the construction industry have placed Manly into a technical market supplying engineered closures for Commercial Laboratories, Hotels and Mansions. Experienced personnel are a key strength and provide the company a distinct competitive advantage. Onsite Engineers are available to assist customers with design and development of customized solutions. Furthermore, Manly maintains a well established production team, with shop employees having an average of 24 years of shipbuilding, marine fabrication and / or steel fabrication experience. Manly Marine Closures works with naval architects, marine engineers, builders and owners, to ensure the vessel is fitted with the best available designs and products. We look forward to the opportunity to apply our experience and resources to provide you with a solution which will meet your needs.
