The company employs about 2,000 people worldwide, with many based in the Athol plant, where it is not uncommon to see devoted generations of toolmakers with 30 or more years of experience. Starrett is the last remaining full line precision tool company to be proudly manufacturing their products within the U.S.A. Thousands of Precision Tools, Gages and Instruments The broad Starrett product line includes precision tools (micrometers, calipers, rules, etc.), tape measures, levels, electronic gages, dial indicators, gage blocks, granite surface plates, optical measuring projectors, vision systems, vises, M1 lubricant, and precision ground flat stock. Much of the Companys production is concentrated in hand measuring tools and precision instruments that many manufacturing companies, from small machine shops to Fortune 500 firms, buy for the use of their employees. Saw Blade Products In addition to tools, Starrett is also a prominent leader in saw blade products, with a broad line of band saw blades, hacksaws, hole saws and jig and reciprocating blades. There are blades available to cut anything from metal and wood to exotic space age materials. Wide Market Penetration and Distribution Starrett tools are essential for inspecting and cutting an endless number of products that are measured, cut, formed or assembled. By far the largest consumer of Starrett tools is the metalworking industry in general, and more specifically the automotive, aviation, marine and appliance industries, farm equipment shops, machinists, "do-it-yourselfers" and professional tradesmen. Their products are sold throughout the United States and Canada and over 100 foreign countries through distributors and dealers. There have been numerous acquisitions and innovative product line expansions in many categories in recent years in an effort to more effectively serve its customers. In addition to Athol, there are manufacturing plants in Ohio, North and South Carolina, Brazil, Scotland, the Dominican Republic and China. See Manufacturing Facilities Worldwide for more detailed information. Annual sales of the company are in the vicinity of $200 million and the company is traded publicly on the NYSE.

Cannon Equipment was officially formed when the Distribution Equipment Division (DED) of IMI Cornelius merged its manufacturing operations in Coon Rapids, Minnesota into Point-of-Sales, a beverage display manufacturer based in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. A new company emerged, named Cannon Equipment, and became part of the IMI family. Through the acquisition of a number of US based companies: Point-of-Sales (1981) Bonus Built (1986) The Cumberland Corporation (1988) Doran (1989) Conveyor Specialties (1990) and Melrose Displays (1999), Cannon Equipment has grown into the successful business, achieving many industry “firsts”. 1968 – The first Bossy Cart Loader was designed and produced by Cannon Equipment. 1987 – The first 3 shelf elevator (high speed) Bossy Cart Loader was designed and produced by Cannon Equipment. 1992 – The Cleveland Plain Dealer installed the first Newspaper Cart Loader designed and produced by Cannon Equipment (named the NCL Series 1). The 11 original machines are still in service today. 1995/96 – The next generation Newspaper Cart loader, the NCL Series II, was designed and developed by Cannon Equipment. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel installed the first NCL Series II Cart Loaders, which are also still in service today. 2005 – The first 80/120 Bossy Loader (Dairy Systems Automation) is designed and developed. This system utilized the same servo driven counter balanced lift arrangement as NCL Series II (Newspaper Automation). Today, Cannon Equipment continues to be a leader in the material handling carts, automated equipment, Front-end Merchandising, and Point of Purchase industries. Continued product innovations and first to market solutions separate Cannon Equipment from other manufactu

The company today is the result of a carefully crafted merger in May 2000 and a series of strategic acquisitions along the way – all enhancing product offerings and system solution capabilities. The bond that has formed Sauer-Danfoss has two distinct, yet related beginnings. The two sides of the story include those of Sauer-Sundstrand and Danfoss Fluid Power. Sauer-Sundstrand Sundstrand Machine Tools began in 1946 and the name changed to Sundstrand Corporation in 1959. Sundstrand Hydro-Transmission evolved in 1961 as a highly regarded US-based company focusing on hydraulics. Meanwhile, Klaus Murmann of Germany began working on pumps and other hydraulic products under the name Sauer Getriebe in 1967. In 1987, Murmann established a joint-venture under the name Sundstrand-Sauer. In 1989, Sundstrand sold its interest and the company name was changed to Sauer-Sundstrand. Sauer Inc., the holding company for all Sauer-Sundstrand activities, went public on the New York and Frankfurt stock exchanges on May 11, 1998. Danfoss Fluid Power Established in 1933 by Mads Clausen as Danish Refrigeration Controls and Apparatus Manufacturer, the name changed to Danfoss in 1946. In 1964 the first Danfoss hydraulic product was developed in Nordborg, Denmark. Between 1990 and 1996, multiple acquisitions in the USA and one in Poland formed the beginning of a global enterprise. In 1998, Danfoss Hydraulics became an independent company under the name of Danfoss Fluid Power A/S, setting it apart from the Danfoss core business. The Merger The Clausen and Murmann business interests grew just miles apart in Denmark and Germany. While aware of each others’ business interests, they first came together in 1992 with discussions over development of a pump. What began as an agreement to cooperate on complementary products became a mutual interest in global growth and business development. Discussions proceeded over the years and on January 22, 2000 Jørgen Mads Clausen and Klaus Murmann signed the agreement at Glücksburg Castle in Germany, resulting in the May 3rd, 2000, merger. What has followed is a success story of global proportion as Sauer-Danfoss continues to build its market prominence worldwide. Danfoss A/S Acquires Controlling Interest in Sauer-Danfoss Inc. In July 2008, Danfoss A/S acquired more than 50 percent of the outstanding common stock of Sauer-Danfoss Inc. In November 2009, Danfoss A/S acquired the remaining shares of Sauer-Danfoss Inc. held by Sauer Holding GmbH, bringing Danfoss share holding in Sauer-Danfoss Inc. to approximately 76 percent.
