Russian-Made Innovative Complex Successfully Tested in Russian Highway Expansion Project

On August 10, according to TASS, the South Ural Highway Administration reported that a domestically developed innovative complex has successfully completed testing in the expansion project of the A-310 federal highway in Chelyabinsk Oblast. The complex is designed to improve the quality of road surfaces across Russia by eliminating the formation of longitudinal depressions (rutting).

According to the department, the testing was conducted jointly by "Russian Technical Engineering Company" and the contractor responsible for the major repair of the A-310 federal highway section. The tested innovative complex is equipped with a static densimeter from a domestic power station.

The new comprehensive facility enables road workers to predict whether the soil and surface layer of a specific road section can withstand the corresponding load under given traffic intensity. According to sources from the agency, densimeter readings measured at the construction site are used to calculate correction factors for dynamic methods. When the pressure system is applied to the support plate, linear displacement sensors record the deformation of the coating, and based on the load-settlement relationship, the deformation modulus, elastic modulus, and relative compaction index are calculated.

A representative of the agency stated that conducting a series of on-site tests of road structures will help make optimal and effective design decisions in the future, thereby eliminating the formation of ruts throughout the warranty period, ensuring roads meet regulatory requirements, and improving overall road safety levels. He also explained that rutting is a common pavement problem in Russia, leading to surface deterioration and the formation of longitudinal depressions.
