On April 15, 2026, Cainiao Group unveiled its first self-developed "climbing robot" ZeeBot at the MODEX 2026 International Logistics Exhibition in Atlanta, USA, and confirmed that the first warehouse project utilizing intelligent operations with climbing robots has been delivered and put into use in Guangdong Province, China. Real-world test data shows that this technology doubles warehouse storage and retrieval efficiency, with the robot climbing to the top of a five-story shelf in just 10 seconds.
This milestone launch not only marks a major breakthrough in Cainiao's independent research and development of key logistics technology products, but also represents an accelerated leap for the logistics industry from "software-driven point automation" to "AI-driven full-chain intelligentization."
Cainiao's ZeeBot is a special-purpose robot with a flexible structure, specifically designed for warehouse environments. It breaks the traditional automated warehouse's fragmented operational mode between ground-level handling and vertical storage rack handling. The same robot can both move quickly on the ground and directly climb shelves for storage and retrieval.
"Logistics chains are long, and traditional automation can significantly improve efficiency at each link. However, the entire chain lacks cohesion, and there are still gaps in the automated workflow." Bi Jianghua, Vice President of Cainiao Group and General Manager of the Logistics Technology Division, stated that ZeeBot, as a key product connecting multiple operational links, will push warehouses from point automation to a new stage of full-chain multi-robot intelligent collaboration orchestrated by AI dispatch.
According to data released by Cainiao, warehouses using climbing robots show significant advantages compared to other automated warehouses: the robot moves faster, reaching a speed of 4 meters per second on the ground; when climbing, it can reach a shelf five stories high in 10 seconds; it offers higher storage density, improving space utilization by 40%; and its modular design and enhanced deployment efficiency give the warehouse greater scalability.
It is reported that Cainiao's climbing robot is now openly available for sale on the market. Hundreds of ZeeBot units are already in operation at a cross-border logistics warehouse in Dongguan, Guangdong, serving a leading global cross-border e-commerce platform. Calculations show that this warehouse's storage and retrieval efficiency has doubled compared to traditional automated models.
Industry insiders point out that Cainiao's extensive global logistics network provides the best scenario for its technology products, enhancing their competitiveness in terms of stability and adaptability. As planned, Cainiao will gradually deploy and put climbing robots into use in overseas warehouses in regions such as Europe and America, bringing this battle-tested intelligent solution to the global market.
