Recently, the AECC Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials (abbreviated as "BIAM") disclosed that the single crystal superalloy developed by the team led by its Chief Specialist Li Jiarong has reached an internationally advanced level. Among them, the second-generation single crystal superalloy DD6 used in single crystal turbine blades exhibits performance superior or equivalent to similar products widely used in Europe and the United States, with lower application costs. Currently, DD6 has become the most widely used single crystal turbine blade material in China.

Single crystal turbine blades are critical components of aircraft engines, operating under severe conditions such as ultra-high temperatures, high pressure, high rotational speeds, and corrosive gas erosion. Yue Xiaotian, a researcher at BIAM, explained that single crystal turbine blades are manufactured using nickel-based single crystal superalloys, forming a single crystal structure through precision casting. Compared to traditional polycrystalline alloys, their structural strength and high-temperature resistance are significantly improved. Since the 1980s, the institute has pioneered the development of single crystal superalloys with independent intellectual property rights and China's first single crystal turbine blade.

Currently, countries capable of independently mastering the entire chain of technologies for single crystal turbine blades, from material research and development, precision casting to engineering applications, include the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, France, and China. Wang Wenqiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of BIAM, stated that after 70 years of development, BIAM now possesses nearly 80 material specialties across 16 fields and will continue to provide material support for the independent development of aircraft engines.
