On the early morning of the 30th, with Unit 2 of the Chongqing Huadian Tongnan Phase I gas power project successfully completing a 168-hour full-load trial operation, China's first power generation project equipped with two 550 MW F-class heavy-duty gas turbines has been fully completed and put into operation, injecting strong momentum into local summer peak power supply and green low-carbon transition.

The project comprises two 550.12 MW split-shaft gas-steam combined cycle peaking power units, currently the largest single-unit capacity and highest efficiency F-class heavy-duty gas turbines in China, with a total installed capacity of 1100.24 MW and a combined cycle efficiency of 61.66%.

Unit 1 of the project was the first to commence commercial operation on March 21 this year, and Unit 2 has now successfully completed this full-load trial operation with key performance indicators all exceeding design standards. Environmental emission indicators are superior to national emission standards, and major economic and technical indicators have reached advanced levels among similar units in China.

When both units operate at full load, the project can generate an additional 2.1 billion kWh of clean electricity annually. Additionally, the units feature outstanding advantages such as rapid start-stop and deep peak regulation capabilities. Hot start-up requires only one hour to reach full-load peaking operation, enabling quick smoothing of peak-valley differences in electricity consumption, effectively filling power gaps, and significantly enhancing the grid's peak-shaving and power supply security capacity, providing reliable support for the integration and consumption of new energy sources such as wind and solar power.

Furthermore, as the only gas turbine unit in Chongqing equipped with Fast Cut Back (FCB) functionality, it can operate in island mode and achieve rapid power restoration during grid faults. Paired with dual full-capacity transmission lines, it further enhances power supply reliability, effectively strengthens the northwest Chongqing power grid structure, and improves the regional grid's peak regulation, frequency regulation, and emergency disaster response capabilities.
