Emirates SkyCargo has put its first Boeing 777-300ERSF converted freighter into commercial service, becoming the world's first air cargo carrier to deploy this freighter model. The aircraft, registered as A6-EBK, operated its first commercial flight from Hong Kong to Dubai on June 30, 2026, carrying over 100 tons of cargo.
This Boeing 777-300ERSF is not a new factory-built freighter but was converted from a Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft in the Emirates fleet, which was approximately 20 years old. The conversion was carried out by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), extending the aircraft's service life by 10 to 15 years through the repurposing of existing passenger aircraft assets.
The converted freighter offers a payload of 100 tons and a cargo volume of 811 cubic meters, providing 25% more cargo space than the production Boeing 777-F freighter. This model features 47 pallet positions, 10 more than the 777-F, making it suitable for transporting volume-based goods such as e-commerce cargo—which currently accounts for approximately 20% of global air freight volume.
This freighter is the sixth new aircraft introduced by Emirates SkyCargo since March 2026, following the delivery of five production Boeing 777-F freighters. Badr Abbas, Senior Vice President of Emirates SkyCargo, stated: "The entry into service of the first converted Boeing 777-300ERSF marks the next step in expanding our fleet and operational flexibility. We are optimizing fleet assets by converting older Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft to meet the growing global demand for air cargo."
According to the fleet expansion plan, Emirates SkyCargo will receive five more 777-F and one more 777-300ERSF by December 2026, with three additional converted freighters to be introduced in 2027. By then, all five converted freighters will be fully delivered. The cargo destination network has expanded from over 40 destinations in February to 62, and is expected to exceed 70 by the end of the year.
