World's First 10,000-Car Capacity PCTC Equipped with Photovoltaic Power System Delivered

On July 21, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., Ltd., successfully delivered a 10,800-CE LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carrier (PCTC) to Korea Ocean Business Corporation via an online remote signing ceremony. This is the fourth 10,000-car capacity PCTC delivered by China and the world's first such vessel equipped with a photovoltaic power generation system.

Jointly developed by GSI and the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI), the vessel is classed by Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the Korean Register of Shipping (KR), and is capable of navigating unlimited global waters. The ship has an overall length of 230 meters, a length between perpendiculars of 225.5 meters, and a beam of 40 meters. It is powered by a dual-fuel system using fuel oil and natural gas, and is equipped with a shaft generator and a 200 kW peak photovoltaic grid-connected system. Based on an estimated daily sunshine duration of 5.5 to 7.0 hours, the photovoltaic system generates approximately 1,000 kWh per day, offering excellent energy-saving and consumption-reduction performance. In terms of emissions, it meets the IMO Tier III standards, and the onboard natural gas storage capacity is sufficient for the entire voyage.

The vessel features 14 car decks, including 9 fixed decks and 5 hoistable decks. It is designed to transport cars, vans, semi-trailers for freight containers, heavy trucks, and other vehicle types. In addition to vehicles, it can also carry certain dangerous goods packaged in accordance with the IMDG Code.

It is reported that after delivery, the vessel will be chartered to Hyundai Glovis Co., Ltd. for operation, undertaking the transportation of automobiles in trade between Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, and Europe.
