Recently, China XD Electric's subsidiary Xi'an XD Switchgear Electric Co., Ltd. held a shipment ceremony for the first domestically produced 80 kA SF6 generator circuit breaker for the Datang Yunnan Malutang project.
At the ceremony site, transport vehicles carrying the new equipment were lined up in neat formation, ready for departure, with an uplifting and determined atmosphere. The head of XD Electric's power generation switchgear division introduced the overall project progress. For a long time, the core technology for large-capacity generator circuit breakers in China has been monopolized by foreign companies, posing a key shortcoming in the independent control of hydropower equipment. Leveraging the opportunity of the equipment localization upgrade for the Datang Malutang Hydropower Station, the company independently developed the 80 kA generator circuit breaker, achieving its first engineering demonstration application.
Independent Development, Overcoming Challenges
Since the product's research and development began in 2023, the R&D team has been committed to the goal of technological independence, concentrating efforts to break through multiple key core technologies. All type tests for the product were successfully passed in a single attempt, truly achieving complete independent control of core technologies. Facing a tight production schedule and strict quality standards, the company's departments collaborated efficiently and tackled challenges together. All project personnel adhered to quality bottom lines, completing the entire process of production, assembly, and factory delivery in just over 40 days, setting a new record for the shortest delivery time for similar generator circuit breaker products within the company. Subsequently, the team will continue to meticulously carry out on-site service and support, ensuring the equipment's smooth commissioning and reliable operation, and repaying the owner's trust with high-quality products and professional services.

He stated that the generator circuit breaker is the core safety barrier for hydro-turbine generator sets, with high technical thresholds and strict quality control requirements. Throughout the project manufacturing process, the owner's team followed up on all key stages including sub-assembly, final assembly, and factory testing, witnessing the Xi'an XD Switchgear Electric team's meticulous control of details with a craftsman spirit, and their rapid response and efficient handling of various on-site issues. Their professional competence and pragmatic work style were highly recognized. The equipment was shipped from the factory four days ahead of schedule, a result of the hard work of all project personnel. He hopes that Xi'an XD Switchgear Electric will subsequently dispatch technical experts to the site to guide installation and commissioning, ensuring close collaboration and seamless integration between both parties to jointly build this project into a benchmark demonstration project that can withstand long-term operational testing.
