At 18:00 on October 2, Zhentan 1 Well in the Tarim Oilfield, located on the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert, was completed at a drilling depth of 8,345 meters. This is the second ultra-deep well drilled by China's first 12,000-meter drilling rig, marking a leapfrog advance in China's ultra-deep well drilling.

Zhentan 1 Well is located in Wensu County, Xinjiang, and bears the important mission of exploring the oil and gas potential of the large Sinian structural trap on the northwestern margin of the deep Tarim Basin and identifying new positions for oil and gas reserve growth.
This ultra-deep well was drilled using China's first independently developed 12,000-meter drilling rig, marking the rig's second successful application. On January 5, 2025, China's first ultra-deep scientific exploration well exceeding 10,000 meters — Shendi Take 1 Well — was successfully completed at 10,910 meters underground, becoming the deepest vertical well in Asia and the second deepest in the world at that time. The "hero" behind it was precisely this independently developed 12,000-meter drilling rig. The rig is equipped with the most powerful 6,000-horsepower drilling winch in China, and its 900-ton hoisting system can easily lift two EMU trains. Its intelligent control system has achieved full-process automation of drilling operations, marking that domestically produced drilling rigs have reached the world's leading level.
Up to now, the Tarim Oilfield has drilled more than 270 wells deeper than 8,000 meters, accounting for more than 50% of China's total.
