Recently, NanoMalaysia Bhd (hereinafter referred to as "NanoMalaysia") and CIMA Cement Industries Sdn Bhd established a partnership to jointly promote the development of graphene-enhanced concrete, aiming to transform the Malaysian construction industry by addressing key environmental and performance challenges.

This collaboration is highly significant, not only committed to pioneering the integration of nanotechnology into the construction sector but also focused on delivering specific solutions that meet and exceed all critical technical performance standards. By advancing innovations in materials science, the development of next-generation green and sustainable concrete is already foreseeable, which will help support long-term environmental goals while elevating overall industry standards.

Graphene-enhanced concrete, as a breakthrough sustainable building material, offers unique advantages, capable of locking in solid carbon from greenhouse gas atmospheric emissions. Dr. Rezal Khairi Ahmad, CEO of NanoMalaysia, stated that the partnership with CIMA further strengthens the company's commitment to connecting nanotechnology with sustainable construction.

It is understood that NanoMalaysia is a guarantee limited company under Singapore's Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, while CIMA is a wholly-owned subsidiary of UEM Group Bhd. In this collaboration, CIMA is not merely a technology recipient but provides practical insights throughout the research process to ensure the applicability and industry relevance of the research outcomes. Additionally, Universiti Teknologi Petronas, with its specialized research expertise, provides strong support for the project.

Market forecasts highlight the immense potential of this technology. The Asia-Pacific graphene-enhanced concrete market size is expected to grow from $6.1 million in 2020 to $18.8 million (RM80 million) in 2025, reaching $54.9 million by 2030.
