The first is the two-dimensional door protection required by all elevators. The cegard/3D then adds a sensor to monitor the area in front of the elevator. The three-dimensional detection area remains constant and focused on the critical area between the car and landing door during door closure. Therefore, people and objects are reliably detected during the entire door closure process and false openings are minimized. If the sensor above the elevator doors detects a person or object which has moved into the area being monitored, a signal is sent to the door controller. The doors can then be reopened in sufficient time to avoid injuries or damage to objects. The modular design of the system means that current door safeguarding carried out by only a light curtain system can be inexpensively upgraded to a 3D system.
