Blackstone Energy Transition Partners, under Blackstone, announced that the Magnolia natural gas power plant in Plaquemine, Louisiana, has been completed and commenced commercial operations. This combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant has a capacity of 694 megawatts (MW) and represents a significant strategic investment by Blackstone Energy Transition Partners in the North American power sector.

The Magnolia natural gas power plant was developed by Kindle Energy, Blackstone's North American power platform. Construction began in 2022 and created over 400 construction jobs for the local community during the building phase. The facility is expected to supply electricity to more than 500,000 households in Louisiana annually. It is the first advanced power plant in the southern region of the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) with hydrogen-compatible capabilities, contributing to enhanced stability and efficiency of the regional power supply.
Bilal Khan, Senior Managing Director at Blackstone, stated: "Blackstone is committed to investing in new energy projects to support economic growth and meet the growing demand for electricity. We are delighted to be involved in this critical project, which has created hundreds of jobs and will deliver more affordable, efficient, and reliable power to Louisiana."
Lee Davis, CEO of Kindle Energy, said: "The commencement of operations at the Magnolia natural gas power plant is a significant milestone for our company. We continue to build efficient power generation facilities for partners and customers in Louisiana, Colorado, and West Virginia. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Blackstone to address the increasing energy demands across North America."
Over the past year, Blackstone Energy Transition Partners has also invested in several other U.S. natural gas power generation projects, including facilities in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, with a total capacity of approximately 2 gigawatts (GW). These investments further strengthen Blackstone's market position in the energy transition sector and support the modernization of U.S. power infrastructure.
