Fugro to Collect Soil Samples for Australia’s Blue Mackerel Offshore Wind Farm

Wedoany.com Report-Mar 15, Geo-data specialist Fugro has been awarded the contract for offshore soil investigation services for the proposed Blue Mackerel offshore wind farm in Australia.

The 1GW Blue Mackerel project will be located off the coast of Brataualung and Tatungalung country in Gippsland, Victoria, and once operational will be able to power over 500,000 Victorian homes.

The contract will see Fugro deploy the Fugro Mariner, a specialist vessel that will allow them to collect soil samples for analysis.

The survey results will assist project developer Parkwind to optimise the structural integrity of the offshore wind farm, reduce construction risks and maximise sustainability through the contruction phase.

Founded in Belgium, Parkwind is an is an integrated offshore wind business with experience in developing, financing and operating offshore wind farms. Since April 2024, Parkwind has been operating as part of JERA Nex, the renewable energy subsidiary of JERA Inc.

According to Parkwind, the Blue Mackerel wind farm will support Victoria in achieving its ambitious renewable energy goals, which include that electricity generation must be made up of 65% renewables and 35% other sources by 2030.
