en.Wedoany.com Reported - Orange has appointed Usman Javaid as its new Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer, effective September 1, 2026, aiming to accelerate the deployment of AI across its global operations. Reporting directly to Chief Technology Officer and Chief Technology & Innovation Officer Bruno Zerbib, Javaid will lead the company's AI strategy, focusing on embedding AI and agentic AI into network operations, customer service, enterprise products, and internal business processes. Orange targets generating over €600 million in value from AI projects by 2028.

This appointment supports Orange's Trust the Future strategic plan, announced in February 2026, which positions AI as a core pillar of the company's transformation strategy. Orange aims to create value by improving operational efficiency, customer experience, service quality, and unlocking new revenue opportunities. The company emphasizes that its AI strategy focuses on trustworthy, responsible, and differentiated deployment.

Javaid succeeds Steve Jarrett, who previously established Orange's AI organization and technical foundation. Since joining Orange Business in April 2023 as Chief Product & Marketing Officer, Javaid has been responsible for product strategy, portfolio development, marketing, and data & AI transformation. Prior to Orange Business, he held senior leadership roles at Amazon Web Services, managing cloud services across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Before that, he spent over a decade at Vodafone, leading initiatives spanning 4G deployment, IoT, cloud services, network strategy, and enterprise technology. He began his career in the R&D division of France Telecom (now Orange), holds a PhD in Mobile Technologies and IoT from the University of Bordeaux, and is listed as an inventor on several technology patents.

Orange's decision to appoint a dedicated Chief AI Officer reflects a trend among global telecom operators: as generative AI and agentic AI move from experimentation to production, operators are elevating AI leadership to the executive level, viewing it as a horizontal capability encompassing autonomous network operations, customer support, enterprise services, and employee productivity.
