Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk has emphasized wheat development, with the ministry introducing over 20 new high-yield, climate-resilient wheat varieties for bread and pasta, including MISR 5, MISR 6, MISR 7, Sakha 97, and Sohag 6. These varieties will be available to farmers starting next season, supporting Egypt’s position as the world’s fourth-highest wheat yield per hectare.
To bolster farming efforts, the government is providing farmers with subsidized certified seeds, technical guidance, and access to modern agricultural equipment. Nationwide campaigns are also raising awareness about advanced farming techniques. These initiatives aim to improve productivity and ensure sustainable wheat cultivation across the country.
In preparation for the upcoming harvest, the state has set the wheat procurement price at 2,200 EGP per ardeb and guaranteed prompt payments to farmers. Modern harvesting equipment has been distributed nationwide, and wheat collection points will open in mid-April. These steps are designed to streamline the harvest process and support farmers throughout the season.
Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk stated: “Our goal is to strengthen wheat production to meet domestic needs while laying the foundation for Egypt to become a key player in high-quality wheat exports.” The ministry’s efforts reflect a commitment to enhancing food security and agricultural resilience.
