en.Wedoany.com Reported - The UK Wireless Internet Service Providers Association (UKWISPA) has announced it will enter "liquidation" after 11 years of operation, with its business to be transferred to a new, as-yet-unnamed entity. The association previously served as the official body for wireless broadband ISPs, Wi-Fi hotspot providers, and related network industries.

UKWISPA founder and Chairman David Burns stated that due to the international success of Wireless Coverage and the wireless broadband network mapping system WISDM, he could no longer dedicate sufficient time and effort to advancing the UK organization. He initially proposed that a "renewed team" take over UKWISPA and achieve closer collaboration with the Independent Networks Cooperative Association (INCA).

In a statement submitted to members, David Burns said that despite receiving member support in a consultation survey in May 2026, certain members of the UKWISPA Advisory Committee vetoed his proposal to develop the existing UKWISPA during the final member consultation conference call on June 4, 2026, and instead proposed creating a new organization. He subsequently accepted this proposal, announcing that the association would be liquidated, with all transactions and operations now ceased pending transfer to the new entity.

The new organization shares a similar mission to UKWISPA, namely to support the interests of the UK Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) market. The team behind the new entity includes Ian Bushrod, Sharon McDermott, Tim Porter, Steve Temple, Trevor Cook, Jenny Gillwald, Oli Stockman, Hal Ponton, and George Taylor.
