Wedoany.com Report-May 12, Schneider Electric and Start Campus have collaborated to launch SIN01, a state-of-the-art data center facility in Sines, Portugal. Operational since late 2024, SIN01 represents the initial phase of Start Campus’ 1.2-gigawatt data center campus located near the coastal city.

The facility utilizes Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure technology to ensure sustainable and efficient operations, designed to support high-demand computing tasks, including AI, cloud, and GPU-intensive workloads. Constructed on repurposed industrial land previously used for a power station, SIN01 incorporates advanced solutions such as Galaxy VX UPS systems, greenhouse gas-free switchgear, and intelligent electrical distribution with thermal monitoring. These systems enable real-time oversight and operational efficiency, supported by EcoStruxure software, remote monitoring, asset management, and continuous on-site maintenance.

Schneider Electric also assisted Start Campus in developing a renewable energy procurement strategy, ensuring alignment with sustainability goals throughout the project’s construction and operational phases. Pablo Ruiz Escribano, SVP for the secure power and data center business at Schneider Electric Europe, stated: “SIN01 sets new standards for sustainable and resilient data centre infrastructure, enabling accelerated computing capabilities vital for cloud and AI workloads.”

Located in Sines, the facility benefits from direct access to high-capacity international fiber networks, linking North America, Africa, Latin America, and Europe. This strategic position enhances its role as a key hub for global data connectivity. Start Campus has committed €8.5 billion to support future expansions, prioritizing sustainable energy solutions. The initiative is projected to create up to 1,200 direct jobs and 9,000 indirect jobs over its lifespan.

Robert Dunn, CEO of Start Campus, emphasized the collaboration’s impact: “Our partnership with Schneider Electric integrates world-class energy technology and real-time visibility across our infrastructure, essential for managing power efficiently and sustainably at scale.” The SIN01 facility underscores a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and economic growth in the region.
