en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 14, 2026, the Port Authority of Tarragona launched a tender to lay medium-voltage cables for the Balearic Pier and the Andalusia Pier using horizontal directional drilling technology, aiming to improve the port's power supply network.
The authority considers it necessary to upgrade the existing service network to immediately supply power to the Balearic Pier and, in the medium term, establish a mesh network covering power grids, telecommunications, and fire protection pipelines across the piers on both sides of the access channel. To this end, an interconnection project between the service networks of the Andalusia Pier and the Balearic Pier must be implemented, with the interconnection line crossing the port's main channel below the seabed elevation.
The goal is to build a robust, safe, and efficient power infrastructure capable of ensuring continuous power supply in accordance with technical and quality requirements, while complying with current regulations on electricity, environment, and industrial safety.
According to the tender, two parallel horizontal directional drills will be executed between the Andalusia Pier and the Catalonia Pier to install two 25 kV medium-voltage cables with a cross-section of 400 square millimeters. The project execution period is 13 months, with a base tender budget of €11,183,161.57 and an estimated contract value of €9,242,282.29.
