en.Wedoany.com Reported - On July 13, 2026, Egypt officially launched a national feasibility study project on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), aimed at assessing the country's potential for producing and using SAF. This marks the first time Egypt has conducted such a national-level study, representing an initial step toward establishing a domestic sustainable aviation fuel industry.

The project was announced at a workshop organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and supported by the European Union under the ACT-SAF program. At the workshop, Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny stated that sustainability is a key pillar of Egypt's strategy to enhance the competitiveness of its national economy. He noted that the Ministry of Civil Aviation is implementing a comprehensive vision aligned with international standards to build a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable civil aviation sector capable of adapting to the rapid changes in the global air transport industry.

El-Hefny emphasized that this initiative reflects Egypt's commitment to adopting innovative solutions and clean technologies, while consolidating its position as a regional leader in the field of sustainable aviation. He added that this national feasibility study, aligned with ICAO standards, holds strategic significance for developing the domestic SAF industry, contributing to diversifying energy sources for the aviation sector, and supporting Egypt's goal of achieving net-zero emissions in international aviation by 2050.

Representatives from ICAO, the European Union, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, relevant government ministries, and companies in the aviation, energy, biofuel, and investment sectors attended the workshop and engaged in discussions on formulating a national SAF roadmap.
