Wedoany.com Report-May 24, German energy company Uniper, in collaboration with solar energy firm Solgrid, has announced plans to construct its first solar power farms in Sweden. The two facilities, named Segaas and Segerhult, will be located in central Sweden and are projected to have a combined capacity of 35 MW.

The construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026.

Construction is set to begin in early 2026, with completion expected by 2027. Johan Svenningsson, CEO of Uniper Sweden, stated: “A diverse range of power generation is crucial for the nation’s energy transition.” The initiative aligns with Sweden’s need to meet growing electricity demands, forecasted to rise from 136 terawatt hours (TWh) in 2024 to approximately 300 TWh by 2045, according to government estimates.

Uniper currently operates 74 hydropower facilities in Sweden, co-owns all existing nuclear power stations, and manages a gas and oil-fired power plant. The company is also expanding its renewable energy portfolio, targeting 10 GW of ready-to-build wind and solar capacity by 2030. Beyond Sweden, Uniper is developing solar projects in Germany, Hungary, and the UK.

In a separate agreement, Uniper has partnered with Octopus Energy to supply electricity and natural gas, supporting Octopus Energy’s expansion into European markets, including Germany, Italy, and Spain. This collaboration includes various traded products and strengthens both companies’ renewable energy initiatives through power purchase agreements. Svenningsson noted: “This partnership enhances our efforts to support sustainable energy solutions across Europe.”

The Segaas and Segerhult solar farms represent Uniper’s commitment to diversifying Sweden’s energy mix while contributing to regional sustainability goals and supporting the country’s long-term energy transition.
