en.Wedoany.com Reported - Trane Technologies has activated a solar power plant at its Monterrey factory in Nuevo León, Mexico, consisting of nearly 10,000 photovoltaic panels that generate approximately 9,300 MWh of clean electricity annually, meeting about 40% of the factory's power demand.

Trane's Monterrey factory introduces a solar self-generation system

Equipped with a battery storage system, the project aims to help the factory better manage energy consumption during peak hours, reduce reliance on grid power, and provide greater operational flexibility. In terms of environmental benefits, the solar power plant avoids approximately 4,100 tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to removing over 1,000 vehicles from the road during the same period. The remaining 60% of the factory's energy needs will be met through other renewable sources.

Since 2016, this manufacturing complex in Nuevo León has been driving energy efficiency and continuous improvement process initiatives.

Daniel Córdova, Director of Operations at Trane Monterrey, stated that the commissioning of the solar self-generation system marks a significant step in the company's commitment to sustainable development, energy efficiency, and operational decarbonization. He explained that the Monterrey factory was chosen based on its years of accumulated experience in energy efficiency and sustainability, which created the conditions for such a large-scale investment.

Since 2016, the factory has continuously promoted initiatives to improve the energy performance of its buildings and processes, earning ISO 50001:2018 certification. Over the past two years, its three buildings have also achieved LEED O+M Silver certification. During project implementation, the team had to overcome multiple challenges, including adjusting building infrastructure to support the installation of solar panels, meeting international standards such as FM Global certification, and coordinating the permits, procedures, and regulatory requirements needed for on-site power generation.

Córdova noted that Nuevo León's industrial strength, infrastructure, and professional talent, along with collaboration among businesses, academic institutions, and authorities, provide favorable conditions for adopting new technologies and solutions that improve operational energy performance. The solar power plant is part of Trane Technologies' global strategy, which includes achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2030 and contributing to the "Gigaton Challenge" of reducing one billion metric tons of carbon emissions through energy efficiency and decarbonization solutions. Córdova stated that the energy transition is becoming a necessity for companies to enhance competitiveness, control costs, strengthen operational resilience, and respond to environmental requirements.
