ZTE, Ethio Telecom Deploy Africa’s First All-Optical Government Network

Wedoany.com Report-May 29, ZTE has successfully implemented an all-optical FTTR-B (Fiber to the Room-Business) network for the office building of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project in Ethiopia, in collaboration with Ethio Telecom, the country’s state-owned operator. ZTE provided a comprehensive solution, including design, equipment supply, and implementation support, marking a significant step in their ongoing partnership to advance Ethiopia’s digital infrastructure. This project enhances the informatization of one of Ethiopia’s key national initiatives.

The GERD, Africa’s largest hydropower project, plays a vital role in ensuring a stable power supply, supporting industrial growth, and promoting rural electrification across Ethiopia. The office building serves as the central hub for project coordination, dispatch, and daily operations, requiring a reliable, secure, and advanced network.
