Wedoany.com Report-Jun 2, GTA, Guam’s longest-established telecommunications provider, has partnered with Tarana to launch a high-speed internet network, significantly expanding broadband access across the island. Deployed in just three months as of May 2025, the network has reached over 30,000 homes and businesses, with hundreds of subscribers already connected. Utilizing Tarana’s next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) platform, the initiative delivers fiber-like performance with the flexibility of wireless technology, marking a first-of-its-kind deployment in the broadband sector.
GTA, with extensive experience in traditional fixed wireless and broadband solutions, has found Tarana’s technology superior in speed, reliability, and scalability. The network now provides up to 500 Mbps to many Guam residents, a substantial upgrade from the 25 Mbps previously available through copper-based systems. Roland Certeza, GTA’s CEO, stated: “This partnership with Tarana is transforming internet access for our community, delivering high-speed connectivity where it was previously limited.” The service enhances local digital access without impacting trade or consumption dynamics.
A notable example of the network’s impact is the installation at the Guam Animals in Need (GAIN) shelter, where Tarana’s technology now supports operations with hundreds of Mbps, enabling the non-profit to function more effectively. Basil O’Mallan, Tarana’s Chief Commercial Officer, commented: “Our collaboration with GTA is bringing reliable, high-speed internet to Guam’s residents and organizations, showcasing the potential of ngFWA to bridge connectivity gaps.” The deployment demonstrates the platform’s ability to serve diverse community needs, from households to local businesses and non-profits.
The rapid rollout reflects GTA’s commitment to modernizing Guam’s digital infrastructure, addressing long-standing challenges in broadband availability. The ngFWA platform’s ease of deployment has allowed GTA to quickly extend coverage, particularly in areas reliant on outdated infrastructure. This initiative supports economic and social development by improving access to online services, education, and business opportunities for Guam’s residents.
The GTA-Tarana network sets a new standard for broadband in the region, combining advanced technology with efficient implementation to meet growing connectivity demands. The project underscores Guam’s progress toward a more connected future, fostering community benefits through enhanced internet access.
