en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 16, Baker Hughes' North America rig count data showed that Canada's active oil and gas rig count fell by 5 week on week to 217, with the entire decline coming from natural gas drilling. Specifically, gas rigs fell by 5 to 65, oil rigs remained unchanged at 150, and miscellaneous rigs stood at 2. Canada's total active rig count was still up 19 from the same period in 2025, a year-on-year increase of about 9.6%.

Canada's total rig count had previously risen for three consecutive weeks, climbing from 197 on September 18 to 208 on September 25, further to 216 on October 2, and reaching 222 on October 9. This week's decline in gas rigs interrupted that streak of gains. Compared with the same period last year, Canada added 14 oil rigs, 4 gas rigs, and 1 miscellaneous rig.

The decline in Canada's gas rigs this week was mainly concentrated in the western producing regions. Alberta lost 4 rigs and British Columbia lost 1, while Saskatchewan added 1 oil rig. By western Canadian drilling target, the gas rig count was consistent with the national figure at 65.
