Switzerland's Axpo Completes First Bio-LNG Ship-to-Ship Bunkering at the Port of Valencia, Spain
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 13, Swiss energy company Axpo announced that its operated LNG bunkering vessel "Alisios" completed its first ship-to-ship LNG and bio-LNG bunkering operation at the Port of Valencia, Spain, with the receiving vessel being a container ship owned by an international shipping and logistics company. Bio-LNG accounted for more than 50% of the fuel supplied in this operation, and the bunkering vessel has a capacity of 12,500 cubic meters. Valencia thus became the fourth port where Axpo conducts ship LNG bunkering operations in Spain.

This bunkering was conducted via ship-to-ship transfer, with the "Alisios" directly delivering LNG and bio-LNG to the container ship. The bio-LNG supplied is produced from municipal organic waste as well as organic residues from agriculture and livestock farming. Daniele Corti, Head of Axpo's Small-Scale LNG business, confirmed that this operation at the Port of Valencia has been incorporated into the company's vessel fuel supply operations at major Spanish ports.
The "Alisios" began operations in March 2026 at the Port of Huelva, Spain, and has since mainly provided LNG and bio-LNG ship bunkering services along the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. The vessel has a capacity of 12,500 cubic meters and has been deployed in LNG fuel supply operations at Spanish ports.
Axpo completed its first ship LNG delivery at the Port of Málaga in April 2025, followed by bunkering operations at Algeciras, Sines in Portugal, and the Port of Barcelona. In June 2026, the company supplied bio-LNG to a vessel for the first time at the Port of Barcelona. With the completion of this operation at the Port of Valencia, the number of ports where Axpo conducts LNG ship bunkering services in Spain has increased to four.
In Italy, Axpo completed the country's first bio-LNG ship-to-ship bunkering operation in Genoa in December 2025, and carried out subsequent fuel supply operations at Naples and Civitavecchia in May and August 2026, respectively.
