en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, Canadian oil and gas company Southern Energy Corp. announced the completion and 72-hour flow test results of the Terrible Creek 21-2 #2 vertical well at the Williamsburg field in Mississippi, U.S. The well, without hydraulic fracturing stimulation, produced a stabilized daily rate of 2.3 million cubic feet of natural gas and 50 barrels of condensate at the end of the test, totaling approximately 430 barrels of oil equivalent. The company is constructing production facilities at the wellsite and expects first production in mid-November 2026.

Southern Energy spuds Cotton Valley test well in Mississippi

The test targeted the "C" interval of the Cotton Valley formation. Drilling revealed a total thickness of approximately 110 feet for this interval, exceeding expectations based on data from two nearby deep wells drilled in the 1970s. Completion operations perforated 71 feet of net pay. The test was conducted with a 32/64-inch choke, a restricted tubing flowing pressure of 435 psi, and a condensate API gravity of 50 degrees. Test data are reported on a gross wellhead production basis, and Southern Energy holds a 50% working interest in the well.

Initial test results indicate that the target interval may be a condensate gas reservoir. Previously, Cotton Valley reservoirs at similar depths, such as Seminary, Collins, and Northeast Collins, exhibited oil-phase characteristics. Southern Energy is conducting fluid phase analysis to confirm the hydrocarbon fluid properties of the new well and to evaluate reservoir productivity in conjunction with subsequent production performance.

Based on 2D seismic data, Southern Energy has preliminarily delineated a four-way closed structural area of more than 7,200 acres in the Cotton Valley interval at Williamsburg. Assuming a 160-acre well spacing, the company estimates that the area could accommodate more than 45 potential drilling locations. These locations currently have no corresponding oil and gas reserves booked, and the company will continue to collect production data after the new well comes online to conduct subsequent development evaluation.

In terms of subsequent drilling plans, Southern Energy has initiated land and regulatory permitting procedures for two alternative Cotton Valley well locations. It plans to drill the next well in early Q1 2027, subject to obtaining necessary approvals and completing wellsite planning and capital allocation. This well will serve as the second commitment well under the joint venture wellbore participation agreement announced on May 26, 2026, fulfilling the drilling obligations agreed by both parties.
