en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 15, Turkey's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced that the country's first floating natural gas production platform, Osman Gazi, is scheduled to set sail on October 17 from the Port of Filyos in Zonguldak Province to the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea for offshore deployment. The platform has a maximum natural gas processing capacity of 10.5 million cubic meters per day and is planned to commence production in early 2027. Once operational, it will increase the gas field's daily natural gas output from the current 9.5 million cubic meters to 20 million cubic meters.

The Osman Gazi platform has an overall length of 298.5 meters, a width of 56 meters, and a molded depth of 29.5 meters, with a maximum natural gas export capacity of 10 million cubic meters per day. It is equipped with a 30-megawatt power generation system, a glycol regeneration system with a daily processing capacity of 1,502 cubic meters, and natural gas dehydration facilities. The platform can accommodate up to 140 personnel, has a design operating life of 20 years, and is expected to be deployed in the Sakarya gas field area approximately 170 kilometers from the coast at a water depth of about 2,150 meters.

The platform set sail from Singapore in July 2024 and subsequently underwent hull steel plate renewal, deck reinforcement, and repair of existing equipment in Türkiye. After arriving at Filyos in May 2025, it continued with natural gas production facility modifications and system integration. The topside facilities consist of 21 independent modules, of which 11 were rebuilt according to the production requirements of the Sakarya gas field, including 7 units manufactured domestically in Türkiye and 4 units manufactured abroad, while the remaining 10 units were modified and integrated.

Turkey's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources disclosed that the engineering work prior to the platform's departure involved a cumulative total of approximately 7,000 workers, with 642 kilometers of cable laying and approximately 30 kilometers of pipeline installation completed. In August 2026, the platform completed the lifting and installation of the flare tower, which is 96 meters tall and weighs approximately 260 tonnes, used to handle hydrocarbon gases discharged from the production system in emergency situations.

Italian offshore engineering company Saipem obtained a platform commissioning services contract awarded by GOE Petrol Sanayi on September 8, with an expected execution period of approximately 8 months. The company had previously secured an operational readiness and support services contract in April 2026, with the related services covering commissioning and operational preparation work before the platform enters production.
