en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 3, Tianwan Nuclear Power Unit 8, invested and controlled by China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC)'s subsidiary China Nuclear Power (stock code: 601985), completed its cold functional test (hereinafter referred to as the cold test), marking the full transition of Tianwan Nuclear Power Unit 8 from the installation phase to the commissioning phase, laying a solid foundation for subsequent hot functional tests and fuel loading.

The cold test is a major comprehensive special commissioning test for nuclear power plants. Its main purpose is to verify the performance of the primary loop system, equipment, and auxiliary piping under high pressure, and to conduct relevant tests on the main and auxiliary systems at various pressure platforms. It serves as the first comprehensive "physical examination" of the entire reactor performance.

It is understood that Tianwan Nuclear Power Units 7 and 8, as the "presidential project" whose commencement was witnessed via video link by the heads of state of China and Russia, represent the largest strategic cooperation project in the nuclear energy field between the two countries to date. Among them, Unit 8 officially commenced construction on February 25, 2022. All participating parties have promoted project quality and efficiency through innovation, successfully completing engineering milestones such as dome hoisting, main pipeline welding, and the cold functional test. Subsequently, Unit 8 will undergo containment pressure tests, hot functional tests, fuel loading, criticality tests, turbine startup and grid connection, as well as power platform tests at various levels after grid connection.

To date, Tianwan Nuclear Power Units 1 through 6 have maintained safe, stable, and efficient operation over the long term, with cumulative safe grid-connected electricity exceeding 500 billion kWh. The units have sustained long-term safe, stable, and efficient operation, with multiple safety performance indicators ranking among the top of similar units worldwide.

Once Tianwan Nuclear Power Units 7 and 8 are fully completed and put into operation, the annual power generation will reach 18.8 billion kWh, equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 15.34 million tons per year. This will effectively promote deep decarbonization of high-energy-consuming industries in Jiangsu Province and support the security of the East China Power Grid and regional energy supply.
